Description:
Strawberry is a proposed and under-studied mutation discovered by Tamara Rowsell with Kamilah Quail in Australia in 2022. It is currently believed to be recessive, and appeared in a line of Oz Calico (2). It causes the bird to have a much lighter and pale red/pink tint when compared to typical calico or Oz calico.
It has not been isolated on pharaoh and is unknown how it affects other colors or how prevalent it is in Australia or across the world. More testing is also needed to confirm the gene, locus, and other information (1). The proposed order of dominance is Wildtype > Strawberry, and the gene symbol is suggested to be SB.
Breeding with Strawberry:
(Note: this is a proposed breeding template, as the inheritance has not been confirmed)
Strawberry x Strawberry = 100% Strawberry
(sb/sb x sb/sb = 100% sb/sb)
Strawberry x Wildtype = 100% Strawberry Split
(sb/sb x sb+/sb+ = 100% sb/sb+)
Strawberry Split x Strawberry = 50% Strawberry, 50% Strawberry Split
(sb/sb+ x sb/sb = 50% sb/sb, 50% sb/sb+)
Strawberry Split x Strawberry Split = 25% Strawberry, 50% Strawberry Split, 25% Wildtype
(sb/sb+ x sb/sb+ = 25% sb/sb, 50% sb/sb+, 25% sb+/sb+)
Strawberry Split x Wildtype = 50% Strawberry Split, 50% Wildtype
(sb/sb+ x sb+/sb+ = 50% sb/sb+, 50% sb+/sb+)
