About Pips 'n Chicks

Hi! I'm Breanna Patz, and I started Pips 'n Chicks. I have been raising poultry for almost eight years now, having gotten serious into the show world in 2020. I raise Coturnix quail and standard-bred animals, with a strong emphasis on good genetics and foundational structure.

I am currently doing research with the University of Wisconsin River Falls, going for a Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Engineering with a focus in Mechanical Operations. Basically: my goal is to incorporate technology--including AI--to help farmers both big and small.  During my first two years at Michigan Tech, I singlehandedly designed and built a satellite prototype for NASA, and created a powerful laser spectroscope with the physics department that could detect diabetes from a single human breath. I bring that same level of excellence, drive, and precision to the farm, whether it be making decisions about the research beef herd on campus, helping design new pens for the pig breeding operation, or fitting swine, cattle, and sheep to show with the Block and Bridle club.

I have three different major research projects currently with Coturnix quail, all in different stages of development and publication. I currently run the American Coturnix Breeder's Association, where I have worked with international experts to develop the industry Standard of Perfection for Coturnix quail - the first in the world for the species. In the same vein, I host the virtual poultry show each year to help showcase chickens, waterfowl, and quail to those getting into the exhibition. It has quickly become the largest online show in the world.

I've been so blessed with amazing family and friends to be able to have gotten this far, and can't wait to see what the future holds. Follow along with me to see where the future holds, and please don't hesitate to reach out at all - I always love to talk about birds and never mind answering questions, no matter how silly or serious.

All the best,
Breanna Patz
