PAIRING 6: Cochins

Writer: Breanna PatzBreanna Patz

This is Day Six of the March Madness poultry judging. For previous pairings, instructions, and a copy of the bracket, please see our other "blog" posts here.

Another all-black variety for day six: largefowl cochins!

These didn't start the Cochin Craze for nothing... Unlike the Australorps from yesterday that are focused on the egg side of production, these are bred for their great size and meat qualities almost exclusively. They're pretty popular in the showroom for exactly that reason, in both bantam and largefowl forms (these are noticeably largefowl), and have a wide variety of colors, though solids like black are the easiest to breed cleanly and therefore more common.

Choose the best of the two to advance as Best Asiatic and let's hear your reasonings below! As always, the top few comments here and on FB will be posted with the results.

Thank you to Jennifer Bryant with Bryant's Roost for providing images of her breeders!
